Not only for school but for life.

From the Principal

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Adelaide High School.

As the oldest public high school in the Commonwealth, we have been proudly educating the young people of South Australia for more than a century.

Adelaide High School has become recognised both in Australia and overseas as a successful and innovative school which has developed generations of students into becoming active contributors to their local, national and global communities.

Today, we are proud to remain one of Australia’s leading co-educational public high schools with a progressive and connected community of students and educators. Through diverse offerings of both curricular and co-curricular opportunities connected with a supportive mentor group program, we strive to provide students with the opportunities to grow, find their place in the world and experience success, no matter their post schooling pathway.

Adelaide High School’s motto, ‘non scholae sed vitae’ - ‘not only for school but for life’ - is more than a motto because it embodies our contemporary approach to educating our students. We seek to develop individual and collaborative skills in all students to prepare them for life beyond school and instil a sense of self-worth which is reflected in our graduate qualities of kindness, compassion and leadership.

Supported by our passionate teaching staff, we encourage our students to take charge of their learning, to challenge, question, discover and innovative. We are proud of being a globally connected school, with ongoing accreditation as a member of the Council of International Schools. Adelaide offers a comprehensive international program which allows students to connect with peers overseas and provides opportunities for international students to undertake their schooling in Australia at Adelaide High.

Regardless of each student’s interests, career pathway aspirations or areas of expertise, there is a place at Adelaide High for them all to stretch and realise their potential.
